Lufthansa extends Dubai, Abu Dhabi flight suspension until October 24
UAE passengers face longer wait as airline gradually restores regional operations
DUBAI – Lufthansa Group has extended the suspension of flights to and from Dubai until October 24, leaving UAE travellers facing a longer wait for the return of direct services.
Lufthansa, SWISS and Eurowings are among the carriers affected by the extended suspension.
The latest update, issued on Tuesday, comes as the German airline group begins gradually restoring some services in the Middle East. Lufthansa is set to resume its Frankfurt-Riyadh route on September 10, while flights to several other destinations remain suspended.
The group said it continues to monitor the regional security situation and warned that schedules could change depending on developments.
Dubai services
Lufthansa, SWISS and Eurowings will continue to suspend their Dubai services through October 24 for operational reasons.
Eurowings is currently scheduled to become the first of the three carriers to return to the Dubai route, with services planned to resume from November 1.
The extended suspension means passengers travelling between Dubai and destinations served by the Lufthansa Group will need to continue considering alternative airlines and connecting routes until services are restored.
Travellers are also advised to check their individual flight status before heading to the airport, as schedules remain subject to change.
Abu Dhabi suspension
The wider Lufthansa Group suspension also affects Abu Dhabi.
Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS and Edelweiss have suspended flights to and from the UAE capital through October 24. Eurowings' Abu Dhabi services are also suspended until and including October 24, although the airline has not announced a specific date for their return.
The group has also extended suspensions on several other Middle East routes. Services to Beirut, Dammam and Muscat remain suspended through October 24, while flights to Erbil and Tehran are suspended through October 31.
Riyadh return
While services to the UAE remain suspended, Lufthansa is moving ahead with a gradual return to other destinations in the region.
The airline will resume its Frankfurt-Riyadh service on September 10, initially operating three flights a week.
Further changes are planned in October. Lufthansa intends to restart daily Frankfurt-Amman services from October 25, while Austrian Airlines is scheduled to resume Vienna-Amman flights three times a week from October 2.
The staggered resumption highlights the different timelines being applied across the group's Middle East network.
